Our academic programs meet and exceed the expectations of Ontario Ministry of Education. Students are encouraged to show initiative and leadership and to challenge themselves to reach their full potential.
CurriculumOur rigorous yet flexible curriculum is designed to help each student develop the skills and confidence needed to attain success at university and their future careers. Each student is expected to successfully complete 30 credits from a variety of subjects in order to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). There are 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional (elective) credits.
Trillium School STEM program is designed to cultivate critical thinkers through enriched curriculum and activities on Science, Math, and Computer Technology disciplines with experiences beyond the class. The STEM program provides an enriched learning opportunity for students who are interested in applying their knowledge and skills in Science, Math, and Computer Technology by offering an interdisciplinary method to deepen their critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Trillium students are taught STEM through their active role in their learning as decision makers, creators, and investigators. Students are encouraged to develop creative and innovative solutions to real world issues, preparing them to meet the demands of our ever-changing and inter-connected world.
Unique Elements: > All our high school students participate in various national and international math and computer science contests annually, with around 25% of them earning a Certificate of Distinction (ranking in the top 25% of all contestants worldwide) each year > Math contest preparation courses throughout the school year starting from Grade 9 > Experiential learning through outdoor education that guides skill development > Interdisciplinary cross-curricular culminating activities
Community involvement activities are part of the school’s program. Students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service as part of the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The purpose of the community involvement requirement is to encourage students to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and of the role they can play and the contributions they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities. Our local partnerships provide opportunities for students to earn community service hours in order to foster their sense of community, as well as social and global awareness.
Our core academic programs are complemented by rich and dynamic extracurricular activities. Exposure to a wide variety of life experiences helps to broaden students’ vision of the world, deepen their experience, and bring knowledge to life. We assist students in growing and becoming well-rounded citizens. The following is a list of some of the extracurricular activities that have been offered.
At Trillium, we believe in experiential learning. Our core curriculum is supported by a wide range of educational, fun and engaging outdoor education programs and monthly field trips. Through these trips, students learn to lead as they come face-to-face with true challenges of adventure, achieve intellectual, emotional and social development, and experience age-appropriate risk taking within a safe learning environment. The following is a list of some of our monthly fun and educational field trips that have been offered.
We are committed to providing an immersive educational experience, especially for all international students. Our residences provide accommodation in a home-like setting where boarding students can find ‘A Home Away from Home’. Our boarding facilities provide students a safe and clean environment under the supervision of an affectionate resident warden to ensure that all students are well taken care of.
