[Update] Two Reporting Periods With Progress Reports
Trillium has switched to a two-report card system in the elementary division this year. Two equal reporting periods – Sept to Jan and Feb to June – is consistent with the practice observed in the public school system. The longer instructional periods means that teachers will be able to procure a more comprehensive assessment of students’ achievement and abilities. The first report card will be going home with studentson January 28th.
Of course, parents have not had to wait until January to know how their children are doing. We pride ourselves on our strong home-school communication. Tests and assignments are regularly sent home to be signed, and our open-door policy means teachers are always available for consultation through any number of means, including in-person contact, over the phone, a note in the handbook, or a message via their school e-mail addresses.
In addition to all this, a formal consultation did take place at the end of October during our Parent-Teacher interviews. This provided a forum to discuss students’ early progress and to address any concerns. Each parent was also given a progress report which assessed their child’s success on specific actions and traits which will help lead directly to success at school. Another round of Parent-Teacher interviews is scheduled for January 30th. All parents are encouraged to sign up.
